02 What is a caries?
Caries is a multifactorial disease that is characterized by the destruction of the tissues of the tooth as a consequence of the demineralization caused by the acids generated by the bacterial plaque. Bacteria make that acid from the remains of diet foods that are left exposed.
The chemical destruction of teeth is associated with the intake of sugars and acids contained in drinks and food.
Dental caries is also associated with mistakes in hygiene techniques as well as inadequate toothpastes, lack of dental brushing, or not knowing how to use the movements of the mouthwash, absence of dental floss, as well as a genetic etiology.
The influence of the pH of the saliva in relation to caries has also been verified.
